Sass & Sustainability

Sass & Sustainability

I started Sassafras Ave. because creating is in my nature and nature is my inspiration.

I’m constantly inspired by the way craftspersons can produce beautiful and useful items in an environmentally conscious way.

So my small part is doing what I love in a way that helps ensure this planet will be able to sustain generations to come.

Sassafras Ave. offers natural, sustainable, reusable products that help you add a little sass to your self-care, while being kind to our planet.

Be kind to yourself and to our planet.

Let’s add some sass & sustainability to your self-care:

  • Sustainable materials: upcycled, recycled and reusable

  • Small, local business

  • Fun and sassy designs

  • Handmade artisanal products

  • Natural & eco-conscious self-care

Sustainable Materials

Sustainable Materials

I'm always on the lookout for unique, beautiful and sustainable fabrics, and as it turns out, my nephew and his father are custom shirtmakers in Manhattan. https://www.rezacustom.com

One day, we were talking about how much it bothered him that he had to throw away so many fabric remnants. I suggested I could take some of that so there is less waste, and he happily agreed.

It's a win-win-win-win! For both of us, for you, and for our planet!

FABSCRAP - Brooklyn

I also source fabric from a wonderful organization here in Brooklyn, FABSCRAP. They collaborate with a wide range of big-name fabric producers and designers that would normally send their remnants to landfills. Now you get to enjoy them in your own sustainable self-care routines!

But why Sassafras Ave., you ask?

Sassafras Ave. is named after the street I’ve meandered on my walks through Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery, filled with sassafras trees.

I am always struck by their sweeping beauty, and their striking color changes throughout the seasons. And of course, that wonderfully playful name for such a stately piece of nature.
